The Science of Returning Freshwater to Estuaries and Planning for Climate
October 28, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm NZDT
Hear from Shari Gallop (University of Waikato), Rewi Boy Corbett (Kairangahau University of Waikato & Pou Taiao Environmental Manager for Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whakaue) and Mojgan Razzaghi (University of Waikato).
They will share some preliminary results of their measurements in Te Awa o Ngātoroirangi (the Maketū Estuary) of water flows in the estuary since the Stage 1 rediversion in February 2020, and how they are working to interweave different knowledge systems in their approach. They will also share some kōrero about how restoring freshwater to estuaries is happening around the globe and will discuss some of the potential impacts of climate change. With this work, they hope to better understand the restoration of our estuaries to better inform future decisions.
Lend a hand at 3-5 pm for the litter clean-up event or turn up at 5-6 pm for a BBQ sausage sizzle before the kōrero starts at 6 pm.
This event is being hosted by MOWS in collaboration with Bay Conservation Alliance. Please ensure that you RSVP at our Facebook event here
