VOLUNTEER

Wherever you live, there is bound to be a conservation group nearby who needs your help. They all rely on the generosity of local people sharing their time and most could not function without their amazing volunteers. It is a fantastic way to get outdoors, meet new people, and contribute towards the conservation of New Zealand’s incredible biodiversity. Most groups need a whole range of volunteers to support practical work like trapping, weeding or planting through to administration tasks like writing newsletters, accounting, public speaking or supporting education activities.

See our individual member group pages for information on the kind of work they do, and links to their websites or Facebook pages.

You can also check our events calendar to see what working bees and other events are coming up.

LEAVE A
LEGACY

Leaving a bequest to Bay Conservation Alliance in your will is a wonderful way to support conservation in New Zealand for future generations. Legacies provide ongoing funding for our organisation and enable us to plan ahead and commit to long term plans.

We have set up an endowment fund with the Acorn Foundation, as we believe this provides professional management and certainty for everyone concerned. Donors can contribute to this fund and as the capital grows, we will be assigned the annual distributions to support our conservation work.

Ways to leave a legacy:

  1. Bequest a fixed sum to Bay Conservation Alliance
  2. Bequest part of your estate to Bay Conservation Alliance
  3. Set up an endowment fund with the Acorn Foundation specifying Bay Conservation Alliance
  4. Make a donation now or in your will

We recommend that you use a qualified professional such as a lawyer to assist you in leaving a legacy in your will. They can ensure that it complies with all requirements needed to be legally valid.

Call us  anytime to discuss your wishes in private.

FUNDRAISE

Fundraising is an amazing way to do your bit for conservation. As well as raising money, it also raises awareness of the cause. With so many crowdfunding websites now, it is even easier to tell everyone what you’re up to and take online donations.

Conservation is rewarding, inspiring, fun, and vital, but it is also expensive. Community groups rely on funding, grants, and donations to be able to carry out their essential work, and even if the work is carried out by volunteers, they still have a lot of expenses such as traps, baits, running vehicles, safety gear, and the costs of running an education program.

There are a million and one ways you can raise money for Bay Conservation Alliance or our members. Here are just a few ideas.

Remember to promote your fundraising event on social media and let us know so that we can help spread the word about your awesome efforts!

GET SPONSORED FOR A PERSONAL CHALLENGE

This could be anything from climbing a mountain or doing a marathon, to shaving your head or moustache. You can use your imagination, and people will be inspired by your bravery!

GET
CREATIVE

If you’re a bit ‘crafty’, you could make some sculptures, or paint some pictures and hold an auction or sale. You could even ask local artists to donate original pieces or prints for you to sell.

HOST
AN EVENT

You could put on something like a quiz night, a ball, or a movie night and sell tickets, or run a bake sale, BBQ, or sausage sizzle.

PERFORM
A SERVICE

You could offer a useful service in return for payment, such as a car wash, dog walking, delivering things, moving furniture, or gardening.
