Pendergrast Memorial Heritage Park Trust Work Day

May 4 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm NZST

The PMHP Trust is organising a Volunteer Workday on Saturday 4th May at the Park. We would love you to come along to help us out – and bring a friend to help too! We have a range of activities that will suit all skillsets and abilities.

We have a couple of thousand trees to plant over the next couple of months, but the first task is to prepare the ground. This consists of marking out where the trees will go, and spraying the ground to kill the weeds/grass and give the new trees the best possible chance of survival. We will also need to prepare materials to protect the plants from rabbits.

We will start at 9.30am and finish around 3.00pm, but you don’t have to come for the whole day – you could join us for just the morning, or the afternoon session if that suits better –  just whatever you can manage. We are also looking to organise another day on Saturday 25th May, if the 4th doesn’t suit you.

Approximate timings for the day will be –

  • 9.30am to 10.00am – Arrive, Welcome and H&S briefing.
  • 10.00am to 12.00pm – Ground Prep.
  • 12.00pm to 1.00pm – Lunch.
  • 1.00pm to 3.00pm – More Ground Prep.

We will supply all of the equipment required, but you need to bring the following –

  • Warm clothes and wet weather gear if it looks like rain.
  • Sturdy footwear – Gumboots are good to keep feet dry. Tramping boots or heavy duty work boots are better to work in. Sneakers, shoes etc are not suitable.
  • Gloves (again we have some available but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own if they have a favourite pair).
  • Lunch and something to drink. We have a small gas cooker to heat water for tea and/or coffee etc — but you will need to be self-contained for food
  • Finally, make sure to bring a great attitude, boundless enthusiasm and a sense of humour!

Location – The address is Pendergrast Memorial Heritage Park, 698 Mangatoi Road, Oropi. The best access is up Oropi Road, then left into Mountain Road, then right onto No 2 Road, then left down Mangatoi Rd for about 300metres. There is only about 2km of gravel at the very end.

We look forward to seeing you, and if you are coming, then RSVP to Scott at [email protected] or on 021513307
