Restoring the Mauri of Te Awa o Ngātoroirangi

Here is a great update on the amazing Kaituna Rediversion project happening in Maketu.

Papahikahawai Island is now officially an island again, and a huge amount of work is being done there to turn it from pasture back into an environment for native wildlife. Once works are completed, the flow of water through the estuary should improve the kaimoana, and create 20 hectares of new wetland area around the estuary margin to help filter nutrients and create breeding areas for birds and fish.
